🌄 Trek Up Snowdon in Memory of Ria and Ryan 🌄
On Saturday, 19th July, 17 of us will be taking on the challenge of trekking up Snowdon to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. This is our continued yearly fundraiser, and this year, we're swapping the bike ride for a trek to honour the incredible lives of Ria Melvin and Ryan Hughes.
Our team includes Ria and Ryan’s family and friends, all coming together to remember them and support a cause close to our hearts. Both fought tirelessly against brain tumours—Ria underwent multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and private immunotherapy in Germany before sadly passing away at just 25 in August 2021. Ryan was diagnosed in 2017, made a remarkable recovery, built a short but beautiful life getting married to his wife Meg and becoming a dad to their daughter Mia. But the cancer returned and despite going through treatment Ryan passed away in December 2024 aged 27 leaving his 3 year old daughter behind.
Their stories remind us of the urgent need for more research, as brain tumours receive less than 1% of national cancer funding despite being the most common cancer in under 40s. This event is a way for us to come together, share memories, and raise vital funds to help change these statistics.
We’d be grateful for your support—whether through donations or sharing our story. Every bit helps in the fight against brain tumours.
Thank you for helping us keep their memories alive and making a difference! 💙
