Supporting Rudy’s Journey

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit Rudy’s fundraising page.

My baby brother, Rudy Jules (RJ), was born with an extremely rare condition called bilateral anophthalmia, meaning he was born without eyes. Further testing revealed that Rudy also has a rare SOX2 gene mutation, which has brought additional challenges including hearing loss, dysphagia (an unsafe swallow), global developmental delay, and complex medical needs.

Despite everything he faces, Rudy is the happiest little boy you could ever meet. His smile lights up every room, and he approaches every challenge with a strength and determination that inspires everyone around him. To us, he is our little rainbow warrior.

Life for Rudy involves far more than most people could ever imagine. He currently attends between three and ten appointments every week, including hospital appointments, clinics, therapies and home visits. Rudy receives physiotherapy, occupational therapy and additional specialist support to help him reach his full potential.

Due to his dysphagia, Rudy is currently fed through a nasogastric (NG) tube and will eventually require a gastrostomy button (G-tube) to ensure he can safely receive the nutrition he needs. Everyday tasks that many families take for granted often require additional planning, equipment, appointments and support.

Alongside the emotional challenges of caring for a child with complex needs, there are also significant financial pressures. The costs of specialist therapies, medical supplies, travel to appointments and equipment quickly add up, and many of the things that could make life easier for Rudy and our family are not fully funded.

What Your Donation Will Help Fund

Funds raised through Rally for Rudy will help towards:

💙 Specialist sensory equipment

💙 Braille and developmental learning resources

💙 Mobility equipment and gait trainers

💙 Home adaptations to support Rudy’s independence and safety

💙 Private therapies to help maximise his development

💙 Travel costs to hospitals, clinics and specialist appointments

💙 Medical supplies, including feeding tube equipment and specialist tapes

💙 Future equipment that will support Rudy as he grows

Every pound raised will directly contribute to improving Rudy’s quality of life and helping him access the support he needs to thrive.

More Than Fundraising

Rally for Rudy is about more than raising money.

It is about raising awareness of bilateral anophthalmia, SOX2 syndrome and the realities faced by families caring for children with complex disabilities.

One of our hopes for the future is to help increase awareness of these rare conditions and encourage conversations around earlier detection, diagnosis and support for families. No family should feel alone when navigating a life-changing diagnosis.
