Story
ECHO reporter Chris Phillips has announced another fundraiser to support mental health charities.
Chris – who has raised more than £180,000 for charity – covers Southend United for the paper.
And his latest charity mission is heavily linked to his day job.
“For every goal scored in a National League weekend I’m going to be running a kilometre that week,” explained Chris.
“The first weekend saw 27 goals so that means 27 kilometres and that will continue for the rest of the month depending on how many goals get scored.”

Goals scored by the Shrimpers will be doubled as part of the challenge while any netted by Gus Scott-Morriss will mean an additional 10k for Chris.
And Chris stressed he had set up the task to support a cause close to his heart.
“So many people suffer with their mental health, especially men so it’s important to try and do what we can to make them realise they’re not alone,” said Chris.
“I struggle with my mental health so it’s close to my heart and I’m keen to do whatever I can.
“All money raised will go to the Mind of the Student charity but I’m also keen to give as many different groups and organisations publicity as well so please get in touch."
