MAA UK Ramadan Telethon 2025: Raising funds to make Mure Kunda a 'Model Village'

ATFAL U.K. is raising money for MKA UK
Supporting the Model Village project in collaboration with IAAAE

Story

Join us for our Ramadan Telethon as we fundraise for Mure Kunda, a remote village in The Gambia!

Mure Kunda village is located in the Upper River Region, one of the driest areas in The Gambia. The nearest paved road is a staggering 15km away! With a population of almost 1,500 people, nearly 10% of whom are Ahmadi Muslims, the village faces significant challenges.

While the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has previously helped by providing a school and a water source, the water supply is limited to just two hours a day. Mure Kunda has no streetlights, and only 10% of the homes have access to electricity.

In collaboration with the International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers (IAAAE), Majlis Atfalul Ahmadiyya is working to transform Mure Kunda into a ‘Model Village’. Our mission is to bring essential infrastructure and sustainable solutions to the village, including:

Reliable electricity

New water systems

A playground

Solar streetlights

Phone charging facilities

A solar enterprise project

A new football pitch

Improved facilities for the school and village

Who is IAAAE and what is a Model Village?

IAAAE stands for the International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers. They are a group of professionals who use their expertise in engineering and design to help alleviate problems across the world. They work prominently in the Africa continent working towards solutions to alleviate water poverty and bring electrification to rural locations. To date over 3.5million people have benefited from the water pumps, solar off-grid systems and villages they have rehabilitated.

One key project for IAAAE is the Model Village. A village is selected that has no foreseen investment or infrastructure to be installed by the government. Normally, women and children in the village travel many miles for water and have very limited access to electricity. The project aims to bring a solar water system and various solar outlets to the habitants. A community centre is also built, where the people can host social events and hold educational courses. Roads and pathways around the village are also constructed as well as toilets and sanitation infrastructure. Other enterprise projects are also supported within the village, like farming tools, livestock investment or vocational education courses.
