Non-formal learning - English Literacy through Creativity and Art

‘Nalam Vaala’ is a registered charity in the UK. We successfully supported children through their school life to ensure they can stay in education, learn vital skills to improve and build their community and support families living in difficult circumstances.

This year, Nalam Vaala has started a pilot project in non-formal learning back in February 2024 at a school in Keerimalai in Jaffna district, from the fund that was raised in 2023.

Twenty-five students from year-7 class were selected by the school to take part in this project. A qualified English Teacher managed the project, supervised by the principal. These classes are conducted after school hours, Teaching materials and nutrient food are provided to encourage student attendance. This pilot project will end in August 2024.

At the end of this period, an evaluation will be done to study the impact of non-formal learning methods. We receive regular reports and have zoom consultations with the teacher and the principal. Children are enjoying their learning experiences. Nalam Vaala is hoping to rollout this project to another school in another deprived area next.
