Story
Hi Everyone and welcome to RBL 24.
RBL 24 is set to be the 4th major fundraising event we have created for The Royal British Legion with roughly £6000 raised to date. Starting from 8pm on Friday 7th Nov Beth will be attempting her first ever 24 hour challenge, completing one workout every hour for 24 hours and we need your help.
We wanted to make this event as inclusive as possible so we have come up with a challenge for our IPF members too and that is to join Beth for 4 hour blocks, completing 4 hours of workouts something which will challenge them too.
All of these workouts will be taking place at IPF HQ, Combs Tannery, IP14 2EN and spectators and volunteers are all welcome from Friday 7th - Saturday 8th November.
Some of you may know why we chose to fundraise for The Royal British Legion and others may not. The main reason is simply without The Battle Back Centre, a facility and course funded solely by the Poppy Appeal, there stood a high chance I would not be here today. Following the back injury I suffered in 2015 I was at rock bottom, I could only just about walk pain free again after over 12 months, I couldn't move dynamically in any way and I was house bound. I had my medical review on 13th December 2015 and was told I would be medically discharged, that the Army couldn't see me trying to run again and I should just try and manage my back pain as a civilian. By 16th December the Army needed my room back and home I came to an empty house, I stayed in this house for weeks not leaving and not knowing what to do.
Early February as things were at their worst I ignored a phone call from my Welfare Officer who kept calling, she told me "Beth I've got you a place on the Battle Back Course I think you should go" I was scared to go back to Lilleshall a place where I had once trained for England, how things had changed.
Safe to say taking that call and going on this course was the best thing I could have done for myself at the time. We have attached a short clip and some images which just gives you a glimpse. On this course I spoke to people in my shoes, who felt how I felt, who understood and I also for the first time ever saw a counsellor. I left the course and slowly but surely I took back control and changed my life. This course costs over £4,000 per soldier and has limited availability. It saves lives and it gives these men and women a chance to rebuild their confidence and know they still have something to offer the world.
The Royal British Legion was founded to help those in need and they are working tirelessly to ensure that those who have served are being looked after no matter what challenges they, and the country faces.
Your donation shows you care. And helps the Royal British Legion to continue its vital work. So if you are taking part please donate whatever you can for your place, if you are supporting a friend/family member who is about to take on their first ever 4 hour workout then please show them your support and if you think I am bonkers to try all 24 then anything you can give will help in so many ways.
I am proud to be an ambassador for The Royal British Legion and I am going to give RBL 24 everything I have.
Thank you.
Beth and Sam
