Story

In May of 2026, I'll be running my first ever marathon, as part of Olly Brown's 39 Marathons in 39 Weeks - to raise crucial funds for the research and support offered by the amazing Tommy's Charity.

While Adam and I are extremely blessed to have our two beautiful boys, it was far from an easy journey. I'm taking part in this challenge because I know the pain of loss, and I've since learned about so many friends and family members who've been through similar struggles, often without support, or without even telling anyone.

Two years after having Leo, we were over the moon to find out we were expecting again. We got to the 12 week scan, excited to start telling more people our news. However, instead of happy phone calls and planning, that day turned out to be one of the worst we've ever experienced.

There aren't really words to explain the pain and sadness of losing a pregnancy. You go through months of joyful planning, visualising the future, only to have it all abruptly taken away, without explanation.

It's a day we won't ever forget, quite bluntly being told there was no heartbeat, and that we could either wait to miscarry or get an injection to 'help things along'. Heartbroken doesn't cover it.

We sadly suffered two further miscarriages in the 18 months that followed, and actually then decided to stop trying for a while - I became quite ill from an undiagnosed infection, related to miscarriage, and the emotional toll was increasingly heavy. However, through some beautiful twist of fate, our incredible boy Charlie came along in April, 2025, and our family was complete.

We know how lucky we are, and we don't take it for granted. This challenge is my way of contributing to hopefully preventing more and more people from experiencing the pain of pregnancy loss, and also, to encourage how important it is to talk about these things - I can't imagine having to go through it all alone.

Tommy’s exist to stop the heartbreak and devastation of miscarriage and baby loss, and to make pregnancy and birth safer for everyone.

Tommy's is dedicated to finding causes and treatments, as well as providing trusted pregnancy and baby loss information and support.
