Bath Two Tunnels Half Marathon · 18 August 2024

We provide information, help and support to sufferers of Pernicious Anaemia (PA) including their families and friends. Our Mission: To secure a full and comprehensive review of the way in which Pernicious Anaemia is diagnosed and treated that will lead to more timely diagnoses and better treatment

Story

On the 18th of August 2024, I will be running my first half marathon for the Pernicious Anaemia Society at the Bath Two Tunnels Race.

The Pernicious Anaemia Society are a charity which helps to support those who suffer from Pernicious Anaemia. Pernicious Amaemia is an autoimmune disease which prevents the body from absorbing Vitamin B12 from food. B12 is essential for building healthy red blood cells which help to carry oxygen around the body. If oxygen can't get around the body properly, this can lead to nervous system damage.

I first found out about the Pernicious Anaemia Society when my dad told me he had been diagnosed with it. Until then I hadn't heard of it. For years my dad suffered with the symptoms of the disease until he got a diagnosis. This is because the symptoms develop slowly over years, and often the symptoms are attributed to having a busy lifestyle or just age. The symptoms are also attributed to a wide range of other illnesses. This makes it difficult for the disease to be diagnosed. The Pernicious Anaemia Society help to educate the wider public and health professionals on the disease and participate in research to help further understand what causes the disease and treatment.

I hope you can help me to raise money for this amazing charity so they can continue to keep doing great work for people like my dad!
