On September 13th I’ll be taking part in the AJ Bell Great North Run for Breast Cancer now.

In 2018 my Mum was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer, after surgery and 4 weeks of radiotherapy my mum was given the all clear and had medication for the next 5 years.

Unfortunately, in February 2025 we found out that the Breast cancer had returned and has spread from her breast to her bones, including her spine, pelvis, hips and ribs (secondary breast cancer).

After 18 weeks of Chemotherapy last year, my mum was told she would also require further treatment, as the chemotherapy hadn’t shrunk the tumours as much as originally hoped. It was then the oncologists suggested my mum to try Enhertu, a drug that could extend thousands of lives, but was rejected on the NHS in 2024 for being too expensive. This drug is working exceptionally well for my mum and could help prolong and improve thousands of lives.

Breast cancer now are campaigning to make life extending drug Enhertu available on the NHS, researching new and better treatments that mean breast cancer doesn’t return, spread and become incurable. Which is why I have chosen to run for this outstanding charity, to support the vital work they do and support everything they stand for.
