Beccy, Ella, Amy and Max take on the London Landmarks Half Marathon

Rebecca Millburn is raising money for WMUK

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2025 · 6 April 2025 ·

WMUK is the only charity in the UK focused solely on Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinaemia (WM), a rare type of blood cancer. Our goal is to improve the quality of life and survival of people with WM by providing support, and ultimately finding a cure.

Story

The kids and I are taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money and awareness for WMUK. This is why...

Last year, Mum was again diagnosed with cancer. This was her third WM-related cancer diagnosis in 5 years, and, true to form, this one was even rarer than the previous ones.

The cancer had attacked her nerves. She lost the use of her arm, both legs, suffered two serious falls, and spent over nine weeks in hospital.

With so little research or data on this super rare cancer, we had no idea what to expect. It was a scary time for all of us.

Thankfully, Mum received outstanding care from her team of consultants and The Royal Marsden. After another round of gruelling treatment - and another extra-large dose of strength, determination, and courage from mum - she’s back on her feet. And, incredibly, the scans suggest that the cancer is in remission.

My mum has been through more than most of us can imagine. She is a true warrior. Compared to what she’s endured, running a half marathon is easy!

So, I’ll be taking on the full 21km, and for the final 3km, I’ll be joined by Ella, Amy, and Max - they are running one km for every WM-related cancer mum has fought. We are doing this in support of our much loved mum and grandma, and hoping to raise much-needed funds for a charity that has been so supportive to us all over the years.

If you can spare a few pounds to sponsor us, we’d be extremely grateful.

Thank you for your support xx
