Story

Thankyou for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 21st June 2026 I will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge — climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike, and Ben Nevis, but with a twist: I will be cycling the 664km in between, with a total elevation of 5,369m; and trail running just over 44km, climbing a total of 3,157m, all non-stop.

I am doing this to raise vital funds for Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity and to shine a light on Lynch syndrome, a genetic condition that increases certain cancer risks and affects 1 in 278 people.

Why I am Fundraising

In 2021, at just 40 years old, I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. I had no symptoms — my cancer was only detected thanks to a surveillance colonoscopy. I receive regular screening colonoscopies as I carry the MSH2 gene variant linked to Lynch syndrome, which means I face a lifelong elevated risk of colorectal, endometrial, and ovarian cancers.

My diagnosis came after a family history of cancer: my mother, grandmother, and grandfather all faced battles with it. Genetic testing proved life saving for me and my siblings, allowing early detection and treatment.

My Journey

• 2021: A routine colonoscopy revealed cancer. I underwent a right hemicolectomy at Royal Derby Hospital.

• Later that year: Cancer was found in a lymph node, leading to four rounds of chemotherapy.

• 2022: I recovered, returned to cycling, and found strength in my club, Cycle Mickleover.

• 2023: A recurrence was discovered near my pancreas. Surgery was not possible, but SABR radiotherapy worked — and I have now been cancer free for over two years.

Throughout this journey, the care I have received at Royal Derby Hospital has been extraordinary. Surgeons, nurses, oncologists, and radiotherapy specialists have not only saved my life but supported my family and friends through their own cancer battles.

Why This Challenge

I have always loved the mountains and road cycling. Combining the two — and attempting it non stop — feels like the perfect way to celebrate life, raise awareness, and give back to the hospital that has given me so much.

I will be supported on the road by my good friends and fellow club members Chris Bass and Martyn Wood, with members of Cycle Mickleover joining me for sections to keep morale high.
