Story
At the beginning of June 2025 I am walking up Snowdon to raise money for Simon Says.
I have volunteered for Simon Says for some time in their Basingstoke support group and I see the positive effect that this charity can have on families, children, and young people who have been impacted by someone significant in their life who has died or is dying. To mark turning 30 (!) this year one of the things I wanted to do was to climb Snowdon, and raising much needed money for this amazing charity was the incentive I needed to put on my walking boots!
Simon Says runs monthly support groups across Hampshire for children up to 18 years old, a telephone support line for families and professionals, and advice and training for teachers on how they can support bereaved children. This and more examples of the amazing work the charity does can be found on their website: https://www.simonsays.org.uk/families/
Simon Says are the only charity in Hampshire that supports children and young people who have been bereaved. Like most charities they get no government funding so most costs are met with fundraising and donations.
Here is an idea of how this money is spent:
-£10 Could stock a bereavement book in our library for parents and professionals to borrow
-£100 Provides a School Resources Pack
-£500 Recruits and trains 4 volunteers
-£500 – £1,000 Provides Equipment and technology to support our children
-£1,000 – £5,000 Could provide Residential and activity days
-Celebration events for Families
Thanks for reading this, any amount you can give, however small, will be so appreciated!
Becky :)
