Climbing Ben Nevis · 31 July 2025

The Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team is a totally voluntary organisation. It exists to help save lives and assist injured and distressed people in Cleveland and the Western areas of North York Moors. In the 50+ years of its existence the Team has been involved in well over 1000 incidents.

Story

On the 26th of July will mark one year since I fell from my horse which resulted in me sustaining a serious injury to my back.

(4 fractured vertebrae’s)

Due to my remote location I required the support from the CMRT, I can not thank them all enough for their fast, dignified and compassionate response. They really are an amazing team and I’m extremely grateful to all who were involved.

I’m pleased to be able to say my recovery has gone well and as I thank you to the team I’m doing a sponsored hike up Ben Nevis with my husband on the 31st of July.

Any donation big or small or even a share is very much appreciated, Thank you.

The Team was established in 1965 and normally has around 45 – 50 Search and Rescue Team Members (including probationers) who are on call 24-hours a day, every day of the year. We also have approximately 20 Support Team members assisting with all aspects of the team but especially fundraising and acting as casualties.

We are all volunteers; we have no paid staff and our services are offered free to anyone who needs them. We are reliant on the generosity of local people and groups to cover the £42,000 it costs to run the Team every year.
