Story
In 2026, I’ll be taking on the Inca Trail Trek to raise money for Overgate Hospice – and for those who know me, you’ll know this is a huge challenge!
I’ve worked at Overgate for 13 years as Head of Fundraising, Communications & Marketing, and in that time I’ve walked the Midnight Walk route every year. But 13 miles is the furthest I’ve ever gone… so trekking for four days through the Andes (and sleeping in a tent – for the first time in my life!) is definitely out of my comfort zone.
For the last three years, I’ve poured my heart and soul into making sure we raise the money to build our brand-new hospice. But it’s become clear that the work doesn’t stop when we open the doors – in fact, we’ll need our community more than ever to keep those doors open. Overgate relies on fundraising to survive. It’s easy to think we’re a big charity with big reserves, but that’s not the case. Every year, we have to raise millions just to keep our vital care going.
I’ve always said I would never ask anyone to do something I wouldn’t do myself – so this is me leading by example. I’ve set myself a target of raising £5,000 over the next 12 months. Every pound will go directly towards supporting families who walk through the doors of our new hospice, vulnerable and desperate for their loved one to receive the best possible care.
Over the past 13 years I’ve seen that care in action time and again – and this summer I experienced it more closely than ever. I know exactly how much it means.
This is our hospice. Together, we can keep it open. Thank you for supporting me. 💙
