I have a 10 year old son called Thomas. Thomas, for 2 years at primary school (Skipton Parish Primary School) had a teacher called Mrs Dryland. Unfortunately, for Thomas and all those close to her, she died. She was far too young to leave this world and ever since her parting Thomas has been sad. As a mum, you want to make it right, and although I can’t make it 100% ok. I had an idea…..

Mrs Drylands memorial service was on July 10th, 2026, for all the pupils at the school who wanted to say goodbye. While at the service I learned that Mrs Dryland was a keen supporter or the RNLI and wanted to visit all of the RNLI stations with her husband. She wasn’t able to visit them all, so……. When the service ended, I suggested to Thomas, that we would do this, WE would visit the stations in memory of Mrs Dryland and we’d leave behind a pot of pre planted Cornflowers (her favourite) at every location, wrapped with a yellow ribbon, that meant something to her.

I, Thomas’s Mum (Rebecca) knew Mrs Dryland only from the usual parents evenings, I had a 5/10 minute slot to learn how my son was doing and progressing. In these few minutes I warmed to her and knew her to be, deep down. an amazing human. If I could ever describe her, it would be like describing Miss Honey, from the 90’s film, Matilda. She was simply lovely.

So…. The long and short of this garbled message, is…. Thomas and I have given ourselves a task. A task beyond tasks that I HOPE beyond hope we’ll complete.

Before he finishes year 6, his final year of primary school, we will visit ALL the RNLI stations and give a pot of pre planted cornflowers, wrapped with a yellow ribbon. The WONDERFUL Gargrave garden Ctr, (Twinlocks) has helped with the pots and seeds and for this, both Thomas and I are eternally grateful.
