Story
Scouts has helped millions of people over the years, but there's still thousands of young people on their waiting list. 3 years ago I was lucky enough to secure my son Freddie a place in Cubs with Droitwich 3rds Scout group ad we have never looked back.
Now my friends and family know all about Freddie, but for those who don't let me share with you the amazing impact Scouts has had on his life. Freddie is currently 9 years old and has Autism and ADHD. He struggles in social settings and had difficulty building friendships. This went on to impact his confidence.
He was so excited when he found out he had a space as he was obsessed with Bear Grylls. From that first session he was accepted by the leaders and made to feel welcome. They gave him a safe place to learn and interact with his peers. I have seen him accomplish things I never thought I would. A big example of this was at the regional camp, Shirejam to those in the know. Freddie (alongside my husband, those who know will be laughing) performed a dance show on the main stage to over 4,000 people. He then went one to win District Cub of the year and I could not have been prouder!
Freddie amazes me every day, during Covid Freddie ran 20 miles for the NHS and raised over £1k. (https://droitwichstandard.co.uk/news/grand-finale-for-wychbolds-freddie-who-ran-20-miles-in-five-days/) With this to inspire me, I am now running the London Marathon (2025) to raise money for Scouts to show my appreciation for not only what they continue to do for Freddie, but what they do for all their members.
With your help, another young person can enjoy new activities, make new friends and embrace new opportunities and realise their potential just like Freddie.
Thank you for your incredible support.
