We love to read and glad you do to! It is great to have you as part of this challenge, we hope you enjoy reading all the books. Remember you do not have to stop at ten pages, all we ask is ten minimum :)

Story

As many of my family and friends will know the charity St John Ambulance has played a massive part of life since I was 8 years and and helped to shape the person I am today.

My fundraising challenge for #Defeattheheat raising money for St John Ambulance officially ended on the 31st of August, however so I can raise as much money as I can for St John Ambulance (tagged to Kingston and Merton Network), I will be continuing this as a personal challenge throughout the month of September as well and be ending my challenge on the 30th of September, on a very personal date to me.

Books Read during the St John Ambulance #DefeatTheHeat challenge. A total of 1,083 pages read not bad for a person who doesnt read books much at the begining of the challenge.

Book 1- The Night Shift - By Robert Enright completed 280 pages.

Book 2- Confessions on the 7:45 -By Lisa Unger completed 364 pages.

Book 3 -I know what I saw - By S K Sharp completed 382 pages.

Book 4- The Taker - By Robert Enright pages read 34. Still reading.

Book 5 - Think again - By Jacqueline Wilson pages read 13. Still reading.

Book 4 and 5 these two books are on the go at the same time as have struggled getting into book 4 and book 5 is a lighter read. Plus book 5 is also too heavy to carry around.

Money raised during August £105.00

My personal challenge will continue during the month of September.

St John Ambulance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, joining at the tender age of 8 years old in the then junior section of the organisation before moving up to cadets at the age of 10 in November 1984.

However with my Mum and Auntie already belonging to the organisation, with my Mum transferring to St John from the Red Cross about 6 months after I was born there is a standing joke that I have been in St John since birth! My last cadet unit was CN5 Mitcham and Links cadets which was ran by my Auntie. This was where I gained my grand prior award.

I then transferred up to Adults at Balham and Tooting Unit in January 1994, I then took on the role of Unit manager in 2012 and became a member of the order in August 2020. This is where I remained until we became part of the Kingston and Merton Network, and I took on the role of Interim Network Lead.

My family have always been supportive of me in my years in St John Ambulance and have encouraged me every step of the way attending many award ceremonies over the years. .

On the 30th of September 1996 my Nan sadly passed away, as September starts today in what is a very difficult month, to help me through this very difficult month I will continue my reading to raise as much money as I can for St John Ambulance. So ending my challenge on the 30th of September is in memory of my Nan who supported me in my early years in St John Ambulance. My aim will be to read as many pages a day as possible and full fill my challenge reaching my goal of £250.00 as set out at the beginging of the #defeattheheat challenge.
