Thames Path Walk · 1 September 2023

Oxford Breast Buddy Group (OBBG) is an Oxfordshire based charity supporting over 1,200 women a year, during their breast cancer treatment and beyond. OBBG provides psychological, emotional and practical support through talks, workshops, socials and a huge variety of events. All OBBG gatherings provide wonderful opportunities to meet with other members who might be on a similar journey. OBBG is run by volunteers, all of whom have had breast cancer or are involved in the treatment and care of breast cancer patients. Their motto is ‘patients supporting patients’.

Story

I shall be aiming to walk 100 plus miles of the Thames footpath in September, culminating in a group walk by members friends and family of OBBG over the last weekend of September.

For those of you who don’t know me, I work closely with a breast cancer surgeon who founded the OBBG and whom has brought me onboard the charity as a trustee.

Cancer can be an isolating and frightening experience and the Oxford Breast Buddy Group (OBBG) is an Oxford based group supporting anyone affected by breast cancer. Group members all have personal experience of breast cancer and, whilst experiences differ from person to person, we all recognize the need for extra help that cannot always be met by the health services. We aim to offer psychological and practical support to those who have had or are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The group formed at the beginning of 2015 and registered as a charity in May 2016.
