Support Our Annual Charity Ride for Fowler’s Syndrome UK

At Rawreth Equestrian, our annual charity ride is more than just a tradition—it’s our way of giving back and making a meaningful difference. This year, we’re riding for Fowler’s Syndrome UK. We’re inspired by the courage of Charlotte Holt, the daughter of one of our liveries, Sharron Clow. Charlotte has been living with Fowler’s Syndrome, a rare and often misunderstood condition, and her story is one of incredible resilience.

Charlotte’s Journey

From a young age, Charlotte faced health challenges that were often mistaken for stomach migraines. For eight long years, she endured constant pain and uncertainty, impacting every part of her life, including her job, which she lost due to frequent hospital visits and time off. Thankfully, Charlotte now has a job she loves, in a male-dominated industry, where her colleagues have shown her unwavering support. With access to private healthcare, Charlotte finally started getting the answers she needed.

In 2019, Charlotte was diagnosed with endometriosis and underwent surgery. Unfortunately, her relief was short-lived. Just a year and a half later, her symptoms returned, and she began experiencing bladder retention, requiring catheterisation for six months. Despite multiple surgeries and treatments, her condition persisted.

Eventually, after extensive testing, Charlotte was diagnosed with Fowler’s Syndrome, a condition that causes the bladder’s sphincter muscle to fail to relax, leading to severe urinary retention. The options were limited: self-catheterisation or Sacral Nerve Stimulation (SNS), a procedure with a 75% success rate. After a successful trial phase, Charlotte underwent SNS implantation in June 2022, which has brought some much-needed relief.

Although this has really assisted Charlotte with her day to day living she has had to have in excess of 7 operations in the last year, something which no young lady should have to go through.

Why We Need Your Support

Fowler’s Syndrome remains little-known, and many sufferers, like Charlotte, endure a long and difficult journey to diagnosis and treatment. That’s why we’re raising funds for Fowler’s Syndrome UK—to support those affected and to raise awareness about this debilitating condition.

By supporting our charity ride, you’ll be helping us raise funds for research and support services that can truly change lives. If you’re unable to donate, you can still make a difference by spreading the word—follow Fowler’s Syndrome UK on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn.

Together, we can bring hope to those affected by Fowler’s Syndrome.

Thank you for your support!
