Nine Years Away From Home — Help Bring Gaurav Home

Help Gaurav Pratap Singh return to India, reunite with his child and mother, and have a chance to rebuild his life.

My nephew, Gaurav Pratap Singh, has been unable to return to India for nine years and is now approaching his tenth year away from home.

Gaurav has called Qatar home for more than 25 years. His situation stems from financial and legal circumstances connected to debts arising from his late father’s business, which Gaurav says he had no involvement in.

For almost a decade, he has lived with consequences he believes were never his to carry. He could not return even when his father passed away and was unable to attend his father’s final rites due to the countries law and orders.

His child is growing up without him. His mother is aging and her health is declining. He simply wants to come home, see his child, care for his mother, and rebuild his life.

A Life Without Basic Security

Gaurav’s circumstances have also left him without the valid national identification and documentation needed to work, secure stable accommodation, and live normally and independently.

No lawyers or government agencies are helpful.

Our family believes that the rules and systems governing immigrant workers have left him at a profound disadvantage. In his experience, protections and opportunities available to nationals do not extend equally to someone in his position as a long-term immigrant resident.

Without the documentation he needs, obtaining legitimate employment and living freely has become extraordinarily difficult. Something as basic as being able to identify himself, work legally, and live without constant fear has become a daily struggle.

Today, Gaurav has no stable employment and very limited to zero financial resources. He is struggling to meet basic needs such as food and accommodation. Years of uncertainty, isolation, and separation from his family have taken an enormous emotional toll, and he is losing hope and his will to keep going.

His will to fight is dying by the day because the rules forced upon bars him from working and earn for a living.

Inherited debts and illegal debts and with no status is leaving him with no choice or future.

This is a plea out of desperation and distress that is causing my nephew to taking drastic steps.

Gaurav and his sister have also reported facing threats involving possible criminal cases from his local partner, creating further fear and uncertainty.

We fear his safety and well being.
