Raising Funds. Giving Grants. Sharing Power. Working with local people and organisations, we aim to bring about positive change that makes Islington a more equal place. We do this by creating access to opportunities, reducing isolation and bringing local people into decision making.

Story

Our Willen House project team are collaborating Islington Giving and will be fundraising £5000 for their ‘Make It Happen’ Fund!

As part of the project’s aim to support projects that are directly involved with community, we are collaborating with Islington Giving to ensure that our impact resonates with the needs of our neighbours in the borough.

Islington Giving works directly with grassroots community groups and projects providing support and funds for projects created by citizens of Islington for causes that Islington citizens care about. Launched in 2021, the ‘Make It Happen’ fund offers grants of minimum £500 to support local ideas contributing to a happier, healthier and more connected society. From community gardens to dance classes, messy play sessions to street parties, the focus is supporting local people to lead on what is important to them.

Islington is a vibrant, diverse borough. However, with a child poverty rate of 38%, pockets of deep deprivation and the lowest percentage of green space in the country, life for many people here can be extremely hard.

Some amazing initiatives that Islington Giving fund include:

• Life Chances – a project with Aflah that supports Ethiopian and Somali communities from refugee backgrounds

• Go Africa Community Hub CIC – a project which aims to tackle social issues on discrimination on and prejudice of the African Diaspora through art.

• Urban Forest Tribe CIC – a project which aims to plant fruit trees on a local estate within Islington.

• Dipped in Creativity Engagement CIC – a project which focuses on bringing young people together at a local youth club in Islington, where workshops are held to increase soft skills such as creative development, communication, confidence and enterprise skills, alongside mental health and well-being.

We are fundraising for this with a target of £5000 to help fund for more of these projects and to keep these communities thriving!

You have a chance to directly support these projects, proving a real impact to projects that matter to the Islington borough!
