Rees's fundraiser for Children Of Watamu

Edinburgh Marathon 2025 · 25 May 2025 ·
This June, I will be taking on an incredible challenge, alongside six friends - climbing Gran Paradiso and Mont Blanc, two of the highest peaks in the Alps, both being over 4000m. Over six days I’ll be pushing myself physically and mentally with the final goal of reaching the summit of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe.
However, this challenge is not just for me. I am doing it to raise money for the Children of Watamu, a charity that is close to my heart.
Michelle and I sponsor a little boy, called Peter, who lives at the Happy House - an orphanage in Watamu, Kenya. Peter is one of over a hundred children who can now call the Happy House their home.
Since opening 15 years ago, Happy House has added a kindergarten, primary and secondary school, which also educate kids from the local community - most from abject poverty, who are on free place scholarships.
Happy House depends entirely on its child sponsorship scheme along with donations and fundraising.
I’ve been training hard for months, climbing when I can, from Pen Y Fan to Corn Du to Crib Goch. I will also be running the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May ahead of the trip.
Every donation, big or small, will go directly to building a new facility called the Halfway House. The Halfway House will allow these young people a safe place to continue their journey as they move into work and self sufficiency.
We hope to get out to Kenya with our boys later this year, to see Peter and helping the charity in any way we can - be it supporting in classrooms, laying foundations for the new building or simply having lots of fun.
If you’d like to support me and this life changing cause, please consider donating to my fundraising page. Your generosity will make an incredible difference to the lives of these children like little Peter.
