Story

Hiking 25km in memory of my dad to raise funds for early detection and help families have more time together.

Claire's Story:

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page 🤍

On the 6th September 2025, my partner Will and I will be hiking 25km to honor the life and birthday of my dad, Scott, who sadly passed away on the 5th September 2024, just one day before his 55th birthday.

This hike marks what would have been his 56th birthday, and we're dedicating it to raising funds for The Bowelbabe Fund and Cancer Research UK, two organisations that support life-saving research and provide vital care for those affected by cancer.

Scott's Story

Bowel Cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, with nearly 44,000 people diagnosed every year. My dad one of them.

Scott was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2015. Despite aggressive treatment, the cancer returned in 2017 and spread to his liver and lungs. Through fortnightly rounds of chemotherapy, he remained fiercely committed to living a normal life. Scott absolutely loved his job and celebrated his 23rd year with the company in 2024. He found strength in staying focused and would almost always bring his laptop to hospital appointments to continue working.

In early 2024, after nine years of chemotherapy and alternative treatments, Scott entered palliative care. It came as a huge shock to our family as we had been living alongside his illness for so long, never imagining that our time with him would be cut short so suddenly. However, Scott's determination never waivered. He explored alternative therapies such as a keto diet, intermittent fasting, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and hydrothermal therapy, which we believe ultimately extended his prognosis of weeks to months, providing my dad with extended life.

Scott's courage, positivity, and relentless fight over those nine years were nothing short of extraordinary. He sadly passed away, surrounded by his family, on the 5th September 2024.

Our Mission

This past year has been one of deep grief and reflection. Losing our dad so young, me in my early 20s, and my two brothers still in their teens, has been incredibly hard. What makes this time even more emotional for the family is that his death anniversary falls just one day before his birthday, which is a bittersweet reminder of both our loss and love for him.

But I want to turn this day into a celebration of his life, his strength, and his legacy.

Any donation, whether its big or small, will help fund essential medical, emotional and practical support for those living with Bowel Cancer. This could mean more time, more hope, and more memories for families facing the same fight we had.
