Story
In April I’ll be running my first marathon in Manchester and thought it’d be a good chance to raise some money.
In October 2024 Mum had an un-expected cardiac arrest whilst out in London. Luckily they managed to restart her heart on the scene and she was admitted to hospital and made a full recovery. A major part of this was the bravery and prompt basic life support initiated by the restaurant staff who had recently had such training!
Whilst I reflect on how lucky we were, out of hospital cardiac arrest survival remains about 10%. London hearts is a charity whose mission is to supply defibrillators to local communities with the ultimate aim of having ‘nobody live more than 100m from an active defib’. They also provide training course on life support and defib usage.
The work this charity does in aiming to improve outcomes for out of hospital cardiac arrest is so other families can be as lucky as ours is very important to me. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
