Story
It was back in 2021 that we had to say goodbye to our fell running and cycling buddy Sean. Many people enjoyed many adventures with Sean and we still think of him, especially when we stand on pt.868 - the top of Blencathra, the hill visible from the house bearing its name.
Since then I have hoped to do 'the Joss' in memory of Sean and to raise funds for the wonderful work of Hospice at Home, who cared for him, Nat and their family as Sean approached the end of his life. Injury prevented an earlier attempt, but this year ... I am going to try anyway.
Hospice at Home provides free care and support to patients and families in the home. The team provides individualised care and support to improve quality of life and our end of life care helps facilitate a peaceful and dignified death in the home and support to those who are bereaved.
Although Hospice at Home receive some funding from the NHS, fundraising provides 85% of the running costs needed to ensure that this vital help is available when needed and remains free of charge to patients and their families.
I'll be thinking of my friend as I make my way across the fells from Pooley Bridge to Greendale Bridge (Wasdale - and the home of Joss Naylor who died in 2024). Many of my support team for this challenge knew Sean well, shared good days on the fell or in the saddle and some of them carried him on his final journey.
Please remember to tick the Gift Aid box at the end if you are a UK tax payer. this increases the value of your gift at no extra cost to you.
Thank you for your support for the fantastic work of Hospice at Home.
