Sponsored walk for The Royal Free Music Society Choir

Royal Free Music Society Choir is raising money for The Royal Free Music Society Choir
“RFMS inaugural annual fundraiser”

on 19 July 2026

RFMS is a local choir in North London open to anyone who wishes to sing with others and express themselves through song, without audition. Set up 30 years ago by medical students at The Royal Free Hospital, it grew into a wonderfully friendly and inclusive group of singers in a safe space.

Story

This summer, the Royal Free Music Society choir is putting on its very first sponsored walk! On Sunday 19th July, our challenge as choir members of all ages, is to participate in a 8km hike through the countryside and forests as well as across the brooks and streams of the Chess Valley. Our aim is to raise money to support our choir activities and in particular to be able to fund one or two tenor scholars throughout the year.

If you would like to join us on the walk, please drop us a line. Otherwise, please sponsor your chosen singer – it doesn’t matter how much for because every little helps!

The Royal Free Music Society choir is a registered charity and has been open and inclusive for anyone to come and sing for the joy of it. Launched 30 years ago by a group of medics working in the Royal Free Hospital who just wanted to create music together, the choir is based in the hospital every week, usually rehearsing hard for one of our three annual public concerts. Our repertoire has focused mainly on large classical choral pieces from the baroque and classical eras.

Our choir is special. We invite anyone to sing and new members will be welcomed by a warm, friendly and inclusive atmosphere that can be the highlight of their week. Singing together brings people together.

Our choir is a small amateur group which relies on funding from various sources to keep us going and allow us to put on our concerts with professional soloists and semi-professional musicians. We make every effort to be self-funding but hiring soloists, an orchestra and concert venue is very expensive for a small group, but significantly improves the standard of our concerts so they are more enjoyable for the audience.

We are hoping to raise enough money from this year's walk to fund our initial purposeful drive to recruit some new voices that will balance our harmony in a significant way, and any additional funds will go towards our annual costs.

We will also donate 50 per cent of any funds raised over our target amount to the Royal Free Charity which supports the NHS Royal Free Trust.

Please be generous!! And thank you for your support!
