Rhiannon's fundraiser for Northumberland Wildlife Trust

Rhiannon Ridgewell is raising money for Northumberland Wildlife Trust

100 mile cycle ride along Northumberland coast · 21 April 2026

Northumberland Wildlife Trust has been saving wildlife and wild places and helping people get closer to nature since 1971. We are one of 46 Wildlife Trusts, a grassroots movement working across the UK to make life better – for wildlife, for people and for future generations. We aim to inspire people to get closer to and value nature and provide a range of educational events and activities for adults, families and schools at our visitor centres and nature reserves. We look after over 60 nature reserves in Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland: places where wildlife can survive and thrive. We protect wildlife by managing habitat on our reserves, advise other landowners, run projects to help endangered animals and plants and campaign against development on green spaces. And we do all this with the help of over 300 volunteers who support nature conservation, from tree planting to conducting surveys, planning fundraising activities and assisting with events and education sessions.

Story

I will cycle 100 miles along the Northumberland coast, between Newcastle and Berwick-upon-Tweed, and hope to raise money for the Rothbury Estate Appeal. Please give what you can, as anything will help.

Securing this land will prevent a 40-mile-wide corridor from development. This appeal is being spearheaded by the amazing Sir David Attenborough.

Here is some further information taken directly from the appeal website:

“Your once-in-a-generation opportunity

Rolling moorlands, woodlands and wide-open starry skies. The Rothbury Estate in Northumberland is a place of rare beauty, steeped in human history.

This heart-shaped haven, stretching over 3,800 hectares, holds spectacular views, hidden valleys and rivers alive with life.

Right now, this rare wild place is at risk of being sold off, divided and lost for nature.

If it’s sold off to multiple buyers, it risks being broken apart and managed purely for profit. Centuries of history, precious wildlife and local connection could be lost.

The chance to create one of England’s largest areas for nature, for people and wildlife, squandered.

You can change that”
