Rhino Ark Fundraising's fundraiser for Rhino Ark

Rhino Charge 2025 · 31 May 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
Dear Friends!!!
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Once again we are raising money for Rhino Ark (www.rhinoark.org).
Rhino Ark, an organisation in Kenya, is dedicated to protecting the most valuable of natural resources such as Natural Water Towers, Mountain Forests, Black Rhino, Elephant and other endangered wildlife
This is achieved by raising money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems such as Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu, which provides an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and mountain bongo but also safeguards vital upland watertable habitats for Kenya.
Rhino Ark have been doing this since 1988, building electric fences around Mountain Forest which in turn protects the Natural Water Towers which can not collect rain water if the forests are destroyed.
Equally important the fences resolve Human/Wildlife conflicts by separating wildlife and farmers allowing local communities to farm in peace and prosper!
In addition the fences helps keep poachers out of the natural wildlife habitats, controlling poaching of some of the most endangered species such as Black Rhino, Elephant and Bongo and are an important tool in the preservation of the remaining forest in Kenya as well as stop illegal logging, which invariably results in the demise of the wildlife.
In short, Rhino Ark's mission is to develop sustainable solutions to the challenges facing mountain forest ecosystems and communities and threatened biodiversity areas. The funds raised support both the endowment fund for the maintenance of the electrified fences already built around The Aberdares and blog 22 of the Mau Forest and the new fence being built around Mt. Kenya National Park.
Both Mt. Kenya and blog 22 of the Mau Forest are, like the Aberdares, essential natural Water Towers for Kenya and therefore a small, but important, part of saving the the human species.

Some people run marathons, Fundraising Team 64 participate in the Rhino Charge, arguably the most extreme 4x4 vehicle event in the world, somewhere in the Kenyan Bush in which the team has to visit 13 checkpoints in less than 10 hours in the shortest possible distance.
Speed has no place in this event. In order to complete the event in the shortest possible distance, the team has to cross rivers, rocks and impossible obstacles, manhandle the vehicle over ground where no vehicle should go, winch the vehicle up and down shear cliffs, hurdle down slopes where brakes have no effect. You get bruises in places you didn’t imagine possible and certainly never want to again but in the end its all worth it.
If you want to know more about the event itself please go to www.rhinocharge.co.ke
Team 64, 2025 - There will be no change from the 2024 team. This will be the fifth year of the team fundraising and competing together, which has build a cohesiveness which team 64 has never enjoyed before.
There are no changes to last years car, we have focused on strengthening the car and repairing it after its fundraising adventure in the Elephant Charge. Below something about each team member:
Al "Limey" Bush: He might be limey but he has proved that he is a handy guy to have around and as a long runner scouts routes for the team.
Mbabu “Legs” Muturi: Mbabu has participated in the charge more times than we care to count. His experience, planning and navigation is invaluable in getting us around the course. Now if we could just squeeze his legs in to the navigators seat ..... does he really need them!
Matt "the shoulder" Olivier: Matt joined us in 2021 and apart for his constant whining (still 5 years later) about his shoulder because he could not hold on when we hit a small bump, he has turned out to be a real asset as a long runner and route scout.
Sidney “Gloria” Washira: Gloria is determined to be ready for the Charge every year, now the bush is another thing all together. At this point Gloria is really starting to pick up the the skills as a short runner.
Omri “Alex” Cohen: Alex brings a smile, a giggle and his "guns" to the team and as a short runner is an important part of getting the car over the tough obstacles and true to form he also likes showing off his hard work from the gym.
Peter “Skipper” Bonde Nielsen: The Penguin who is the blood line of Car 64. A true fighter who will tackle anything put in front of him. What ever it takes – Skipper will find a way, just don't tell him something is impossible, unless you actually want him to attempt it.
The Rhino Charge is organised exclusively by volunteers so all donations received by Rhino Ark go 100% to the mission stated above (Please check whether your chosen method of donating incurs any charges)
