Story

Hi All,

Thank you for considering supporting my fund raiser for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Unfortunately we lost my Mum to Peritoneal Cancer in 2022. It is such a little known about and aggressive cancer that I had to seek out the Macmillan team in the hospital my mum was in to gather information and get assistance as to what we could do to help her. They were incredibly helpful and started to get the right people talking to us and treating Mum.

Sadly, nothing could be done to save my Mum, but this might not be true of someone else' loved one, so I've kept the fundraiser general to "Macmillan" because I trust that they are best placed to know what needs funding the most in the wider world of cancer treatment.

Sadly cancer is an all too common occurrence these days. I'm sure we all know someone affected by this horrible disease. Personally I know of at least two people that are navigating this path at the moment and I hope and pray that they can beat it!

So what am I doing???

Well.... for reasons that I still don't quite understand, I thought it would be a great idea to enter "Battle on the Beach 2025". https://www.battleonthebeach.co.uk/

I've always loved being on a mountain bike, and when I saw the event was local (Pembrey Country Park) I thought it looked like a blast and maybe I could raise a bit of money for a worthy cause at the same time.

Since my early optimism of entering I have since found out that roughly 1000 people take part in the event every year and it is approximately 45km or 27.9 miles in length. (bugger!)

However, even with only 1 "good" achilles remaining after snapping my left one in October 2023 I have decided that yes I am going to do it, and I'm going to do so with a sense of humour and a Cookie Monster cycling jersey on my back!

If you would like to see an aging dad of twins getting hammered by the elements and gradients of Pembrey Country Park, the event will be taking place on Sunday March 30th 2025.

Or, if you would potentially consider donating a few £'s to my fundraiser I would be very grateful.

Kind Regards,

Rhys
