Story
If you are reading this, I’d just like to start by thanking you for taking the time to do so.
In the month of August I'm taking on my biggest challenge yet: to ride 300km throughout August to raise vital funds for brain tumour research. Circa 10km average a day. This challenge is especially meaningful as it's dedicated to my incredible Dad. We shared a deep passion for cycling, and I know he'll be with me every pedal of the way.
My Dad (Andy) tragically passed away at 64 in June 2025 to a Grade 4 Glioblastoma after a courageous year long battle.
After battling prostate and bowel cancer in 2019 and being in remission. In spite of being faced with a terminal diagnosis with the glioblastoma, knowing firsthand the devastation of the disease following my Grandma’s battle in 2009 my Dad always remained true to himself wearing his heart on his sleeve never complaining, always wanting to give and show love to all. A testament to the man he was and still is I am so proud of the spirit and courage required to be faced with such devastation.
Glioblastoma is a devastating disease which impacts all areas of a person’s being from cognitive, to behavioural and physical health. The reality is that current treatments are incredibly limited. It's incurable and there has been no advance in treatments for twenty years. Something I didn't realise until being on this journey is that brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer.
That's why the money we raise is so crucial. Every pound will go directly towards funding groundbreaking research into new therapies, earlier detection methods, and ultimately, a cure for brain tumours. This work offers hope to so many families who, like ours, have been impacted by this horrific disease.
I'll be sharing Dad's story and updates from my journey right here. Your support, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference. Together, we can help find a cure and prevent others from enduring what my Dad and our family went through.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for being a part of this with me.
Please feel free to share this to spread awareness.
