Story
On the 19th September 2025 our loving and caring father Richard, a man remembered for his selfless generosity, kindness, and unwavering care for others, sadly lost his 14 year fight with cancer.
Dad was a greatly loved Father, friend, colleague, Brother and Son. He was also a highly decorated veteran of the Royal Navy. A helicopter pilot for more than half his life, serving tours in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan amongst many other notable operational deployments. After this he continued to serve the public with British Search and Rescue as a pilot in South Wales.
14 years ago Dad discovered a lump on the roof of his mouth, little did we know this would be the start of a 14 year fight, through which he showed courage, bravery and resiliency he endured over 10 major operations, countless new tumours, numerous medical setbacks and extreme fatigue.
Sadly, on the 19th September, he lost his fight.
This page is set up to assist and donate to the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff where dad spent much of his time during his Chemotherapy in the early days and the last 3 months of his life this year. The work and support the Doctors and Nurses put into Dads battle and the way he was looked after was outstanding, this donation page is to help us honour his wishes of giving back to them for all their efforts.
Through the Rich Sutton Foundation, myself and My sister aim to continue Dads legacy by supporting worthy causes and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Currently, Dads good friend, Mark Scott is on an adventure around the UK on Dads treasured motorbike. Those of you who knew Dad will be aware of how much he loved to motorbike and how much he would of loved to have joined Scottie on this adventure.
Scottie is currently attempting to visit all 168 RNLI stations in England, Scotland and Wales in less than 15 days. 4100 miles and inclement weather.
Scottie has elected the Velindre charity as one of his donation spots using this link.
