A bike ride the equivalent distance of around the world! · 31 December 2024

Action on Postpartum Psychosis supports women and families affected by Postpartum Psychosis (PP) across the UK. We provide information and peer support, facilitate research into PP, raise awareness of this rare yet severe postnatal mental illness and campaign for improved services.

Story

On October 24th 2022, I lost my wife, Alex, to postpartum psychosis. She left me and my family the most wonderful gifts in Freddie and Rosie, now four and one, along with the desire and determination to make as many people aware of this serious mental illness, which affects around one in 1,000 women after giving birth.

In her honour, I vow to dedicate the rest of my life to helping Alex continue her positive legacy she has already left on our world.

Last year, a team of us cycled 485 miles in five days from Glasgow to Witney. This new challenge is bigger, harder, longer, and could take all year to complete (we’re thankful for the Leap Day!): our team aim to cumulatively cycle the equivalent distance of AROUND THE WORLD - 24,901 miles - and everyone is welcome to join us by adding their own contribution - however small or big - to the total mileage!

Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could raise £1 for every mile cycled… £24,901! The money we raise will continue the work of ‘APP’ (Action on PostPartum Psychosis), a fantastic charity which aims to raise awareness of spotting the signs, both for health professionals as well as for partners, family members and friends of those affected.

If you’d like to join us on our ride as we go ‘Around the World for App’, either virtually or in person at any stage in the year, please drop me a message on:

Thank you!

Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP) is a UK charity. We’re here to make sure mums, parents and families are supported through postpartum psychosis – a severe, but treatable, form of mental illness that occurs after having a baby and affects 1400 new mums in the UK each year.

We offer information and peer support, facilitate ground breaking research, raise awareness and campaign for improved services.

Our life changing peer support network helps women and families affected by postpartum psychosis feel understood, supported and less isolated.
