Last year our daughter Mackenzie left full time education and we were looking for a place where Mackenzie could spend time with other young adults similar to her. Somebody recommended Team Rise which is an organisation based in Pendle that supports adults who have a learning disability, autism and those who are vulnerable, lonely or socially isolated.

Their objective is to give individuals the opportunity to develop, socialise and explore their ideas and goals through a wide variety of educational, social and practical activities. However, their main and most important aim is that the people who go there have a great deal of fun, laugh loads and make long lasting and meaningful friendships.

Team rise runs Monday to Friday, 51 weeks of the year and is run by two full time staff, one part timer and numerous volunteers. They offer an array of enriching activities, from interactive learning classes on diverse topics, to engaging cooking sessions, gardening groups, walking excursions, crafting and social and educational days for 100 individuals every week.

Mackenzie goes to Team Rise every Friday and she loves it! Most weeks they go out into the community visiting local towns using public transport and eating out, which has helped Mackenzie to become more confident and independent.

Team rise only charges a small fee to attend and it relies on fundraising to allow it to carry on supporting disadvantaged adults in East Lancashire, that’s why I have decided to try and raise some funds for them.

In October I am doing a cycle ride for six days around Andalusia with my two brothers and some friends. We are starting in Malaga, riding to Ronda, Seville, Cordoba, Jaen, Granada and finishing in Nerja, having covered 455 miles and climbed 27,000 feet!
