We're fundraising to send 'Team Leeds' to the Transplant Games, an annual sporting event celebrating transplant patients and the donor families. This year the games will be held in Nottingham in 2024!!

Story

Our daughter India has just become a teenager - a milestone made all the more remarkable when her tally of surgeries still surpass her number of years on this planet, of which she has spent more than 6 months in hospital. We would not be able to celebrate her good health at 13 years if it had not been for her incredible medical care, including her live donor transplant from mum Claire, and the critical and enduring support of family and friends.

This August we will travel to Nottingham for the British Transplant Games - a precious opportunity for us and other transplant families to be together and for India and other children to compete and access peer support from her team and fellow competitors. Through the Games, India has gained confidence and experience in competitive sport in an environment where serious, lifelong illness is part of everyone's life. Through the Games we have been connected to a network of inspirational people with common ground and shared appreciation of how fragile and precious life can be.

An extraordinary cause deserves an exceptional fundraising effort. On Saturday June 21 I will leave home for a six-day cycle challenge across Scotland's Outer Hebrides. I will travel from Lenzie to Ardrossan, then on to Stornoway via Arran and the Western Isles, then back home via Ullapool and Inverness. Covering three train journeys, five ferries and visiting seven islands - a bum-stinging 350 miles in the saddle!

All funds raised will go directly to support places for the children of Team Leeds and their families, many of who need support to be able to travel and take part in the Games. As children's liver surgery is centralised to just three sites in England, we are one of many families from Scotland and other parts of the UK in this inclusive and friendly team.

Stay tuned for regular updates on my progress or otherwise - remote Scottish WiFi permitting! - and thank you in advance for any contribution you are able to make.
