Story
The Big Bake is back for Brain Tumour Awareness Month and we need you to help us accelerate cures for brain tumours by raising lots of dough.
Each day in the UK, 34 people receive a devastating brain tumour diagnosis. On 26th August 2024, our family were one of those who had to receive this news as our daughter Pippa was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour.
Pippa was nearly 2 at the time when they diagnosed the tumour. We had numerous doctor's appointments going through various symptoms. The sickness was put down to a viral infection, the head tilt and clumsiness was the fact she was a toddler. It took a trip to A&E and a CT scan for them to find a tumour. Unfortunately, the tumour needed surgery to be removed due to its size. What followed the diagnosis was three brain surgeries and a 6 week stay in hospital.
Unfortunately, after the tumour was removed we found out it was cancerous. This has changed our life forever, what followed was 6 and half weeks of proton beam therapy followed by chemotherapy.
Pippa, who is now a sassy and energetic 3-year-old, would not have made the progress she has if it weren't for incredible advances in medicine. Despite this, many people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour will be receiving the same treatment, care and support as they would have decades ago.
Every penny you raise will help us move further, faster for everyone affected by a brain tumour. Whether you’re a superstar baker or prefer to buy a supermarket showstopper, every cake, croissant and currant bun will help fund pioneering research and life-changing support services.
