In July 2024 I am taking on a 50-mile ultrarun to raise money for North East based youth charity, The Key and challenge myself in the process.

Having personally been involved with The Key, I have seen first-hand the impact they have on children and young people as they empower them to use their voices and ideas to deliver projects and activities.

When doing their projects, I have seen children be pushed out of their comfort zone and experience nerves that they must overcome to make sure their project goes ahead. I have seen a tremendous rise in confidence and self-belief within the children who are supported, and I know that it will help them no end in their futures.

I love what The Key does and wanted to give back so I thought ‘what challenge that would put me outside my comfort zone and fill me full of nerves? A 50 MILE RUN IN THE LAKEDISTRICT SHOULD DO IT!’

I am not a runner and never have been. I played rugby and now enjoy walking in the countryside, so my basic fitness is ok but doing 50 miles is really going to challenge me. I will have 23 hours to complete the 50 miles and so will be running through the night, but I know that any money raised will help to inspire more children and young people from the North East to access valuable life experiences, believe in themselves and realise they too can do anything they put their mind towards so here goes!
