Richard Clarke is raising money for Young Carers Crew

Triathlon · 15 June 2024

Young Carers’ Crew (YCC) is an independent charity based in Stevenage that provides regular group sessions and outings to young carers living in Stevenage and North Hertfordshire. YCC aims to serve as a place for our members to get support from other young carers, or the volunteers at the group.

Story

This year I continued my triathlon journey with three events .

On May 5th I took part in the St Neots Aquabike (standard distance) which is a 1500m (1 mile) swim followed by a 40km (24 mile) bike ride.

On 15th June I was in the Netherlands for the DTS Grand Prix Zaandvort triathlon. It should have started with a 750m swim in the chilly North Sea but because of weather conditions the swim was cancelled so I had to an 5km run before cycling 5 laps of the Dutch Grand Prix circuit (20km) before finishing with an extra 2.5km run. (see video here https://youtu.be/6crB6gQDPnk)

Finally, on 4th August I'm went back to Maldon, the town where I was born, for the Big East triathlon. This was a sprint distance and with a swim section in the tidal estuary. .

As an extra event i also took part in a standard distance relay with my wife and son.

This year I am fundraising for Young Carers' Crew. This is a local charity that works with young carers aged 8-18 in North Hertfordshire through the provision of support, recreational activities and the opportunity to meet with peers faced with similar situations.

Young carers help look after someone in their family who has an illness, a disability, or is affected by mental ill-health.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
