In January, my close friend Tim’s seven-week-old son, Leo, suffered heart failure and was admitted to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Five days later, he was transferred to the Royal Brompton Hospital, where he received lifesaving treatment and care.

The incredible cardiac team fought tirelessly for Leo, saving his life on numerous occasions. Leo showed extraordinary strength as he fought to recover, but devastatingly, he passed away on 8 April 2026.

A post-mortem examination later revealed that Leo had Uhl’s anomaly, an exceptionally rare heart condition, with only around 80 cases reported worldwide.

I am taking on this half marathon in Leo’s memory and to give something back to those who do so much for critically ill children and their families.

The Brompton Fountain provides vital support to children receiving treatment at the Royal Brompton Hospital and Evelina London Children's Hospital and to the families standing beside them during unimaginably difficult times. The charity also helps fund essential medical equipment and research, supporting the ongoing fight against rare and serious conditions like the one Leo faced.
