Story
I am fast approaching my semi-retirement. However, before I change down a gear, there's one more challenge I'm eager to tackle with the support and spirit of the incredible people I work with. And at the other end of his career, my son Monty is celebrating his graduation.
This July 13th, we will set off on an exhilarating adventure that encapsulates the essence of determination and resilience. A 225 mile bike ride across the awe-inspiring yet unforgiving landscapes of Iceland. Our goal is simple, to complete this epic journey—likely to take over 30 hours—powered by pedal and sheer perseverance, and accompanied by a 4wd support team. We will cycle from the north coast through the uninhabited middle to the south coast, a journey which includes unpaved tracks, river crossings and a formidable 4,900 meters of climbing.
We are raising funds for The InfraRed Charitable Foundation, which strives to promote social inclusion by seeking to improve educational outcomes by addressing inequality for young people. It funds Community Engagement Officers located at schools to deliver initiatives such as community fridges (providing food), affordable sports clubs, community gardening and “Boy2Man” clubs to bring positivity to this transition. The aim is to dismantle the barriers faced by disadvantaged students and give them a fair chance at learning and thriving.
We invite you to join us in spirit on this journey by contributing in any way you can. Your generosity can ignite countless opportunities for those who stand to gain the most. All the costs of the trip will be met by me, so that everything you contribute will go to the charity to make a tangible difference in people's lives. A huge thank you if you can contribute.
Look out for updates from the road as we prepare for and undertake this challenge. Iceland’s terrain may be tough but so is our resolve! Let’s do this!
