Story
My dad, Tom, died from cancer in March. So I thought it would be nice to raise a bit of money for cancer research in his memory.
The London to Brighton bike ride is 54 miles long and has one big climb - Ditchling Beacon. On the day that my dad died I walked up Ditchling Beacon so it feels appropriate to be doing it again on a bike as a tribute to him.
The bike ride, which is one of the biggest mass participation rides in the world, passes by the house that my mum and dad used to live in and that I grew up in. Each year when I was a kid we used to stand outside and cheer on the cyclists, and my dad had stories of helping to fix punctures and dealing with emotional breakdowns from those who were finding it too much. He also did the ride himself once, as did I. But I was a teenager then and I’m 50 now…
If you want to sponsor me and give a little to Cancer Research UK that would be great.
