IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See, Austria · 1 September 2024

Inspired by the strength and bravery of Albie, who died at only 2 years old from a rare and aggressive brain tumour. The Albie Sugden Foundation aims to support children during their treatment for cancer, as well as funding research projects into the causes, treatments and cures of brain tumours.

Story

On the 1st of September 2024 I'll be doing the Zell am See (Austria) IRONMAN 70.3.

I'll be doing this for The Albie Sugden Foundation 🦁.

Albie is the brilliant, smiling, joyful and simply perfect young boy on the cover photo, sat next to our daughter, Summer, in May 2022.

Just a few months later, in October 2022, Albie, just under 2 years old, was diagnosed with ATRT, a completely indiscriminate, rare and fast growing brain tumour.

This obviously rocked Albie's Mummy and Daddy, our dear friends Jane and Luke, together with their family and friends beyond belief. But, through Albie's sheer determination they started the long road of treatment. During this time I can't begin to describe the strength shown by Jane and Luke but in particular Albie who in the most awful of circumstances always managed a smile.

Sadly, and after the bravest of fights, Albie lost this battle and died on the 10th October 2023.

My family and I were fortunate enough to spend time with Albie throughout his life, be it at parties, weekends away, an impromptu BBQ and just popping round for drinks and, with all our hearts, we will cherish these memories for the rest of our lives.

If I'm honest, I find it really difficult to talk about Albie without getting emotional and I appreciate this is contrary to Jane and Luke's wish to make sure Albie's memory lives on and the reason why they set up the Albie Sugden Foundation.

My thought process therefore was simple, if Albie can face weeks in Hospital, multiple surgeries, scans, tubes.... and still manage a smile... then I'm pretty sure I can do a little swimming, biking and jogging.

All I need you to do is spare a few quid to provide support to anyone else who is touched with this ghastly disease and hopefully get one step closer to finding a cure.

Thank you for taking time to read and thank you for your kind donation.

Take care of each other 💙x
