Richard's Double Event Fundraiser for The Albie Sugden Foundation

Richard Heaton is raising money for The Albie Sugden Foundation
In memory of Albie Sugden

2 Events: Ironman70.3 Zell am See & Ironman70.3 Knokke-Heist · 31 August 2025

Inspired by the strength and bravery of Albie, who died at only 2 years old from a rare and aggressive brain tumour. The Albie Sugden Foundation aims to support children during their treatment for cancer, as well as funding brain tumour research.

Story

"Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind." -Nathaniel Hawthorne

In 2023, when Albie Sugden sadly passed away from a rare form of brain cancer at just 2 years old, his parents, and our dear friends Luke and Jane, didn't just want Albie to leave a shadow, instead they wanted to leave a beam of sunshine that not only meant that Albie's infectious smile and love for life would be ever present for those who knew him, but also provided hope and love for those who didn't know him but might be going through similar struggles. The Albie Sugden Foundation was set up by Luke and Jane to ensure Albie lives on in our memories and in the hope that one day we can cure this most cruel of diseases.

Last year, to raise money for Albie's foundation, I completed my first-ever Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Event and was completely blown away by all the support.

Appreciating that there is less of a challenge in repeating the same thing; this year, I have committed to completing TWO Ironman 70.3 events on back-to-back weekends - 31st August in Austria and 7th September in Belgium.

An Ironman 70.3 consists of:

1.2-Mile Swim

56-Mile Bike

13.1-Mile Run

All travel and event costs are funded by me meaning every penny raised goes straight to the Albie Sugden Foundation.

Your support would be greatly appreciated - Thank you!
