At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you. Visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk

Story

I lost my father to bowel cancer when I was 17 which had a massive impact on my siblings and I. In 2021 we lost my children’s pop pop to prostate cancer and last year their grantcha (my step-dad) passed away from lung and bone cancer. So I thought about a charity for which to do an activity.

I was devastated when I lost my dad so young (he was 47) and then my step dad over twenty years later, but at least they had a decent amount of life! I have two young children and I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to be told your child has cancer. I know my dad, John and Graham would understand why I chose young lives Vs cancer. If I can raise even a little money to help a family in some way then thats something.

I’ve wanted to do something for a cancer charity and do something a little different for some time. Eventually I came up with a long distance walk!

When thinking of a route and being from South Wales (Although living in London now) I thought instantly of Gavin and Stacey!

I will therefore be walking from Billericay, Essex to Barry, South Wales (192 miles). My target time is under six days from 4th May to the 9th May 2025. Accommodation will be my pop up tent and I’m aiming to average 12 - 14 hours a day.

Anything you can donate will go to such a great cause and really help a young person and their family whilst they deal with this horrendous disease.

Thanks,

Rich
