I have enjoyed a lot of privilege in my life. I am a white male that grew up in a stable and loving middle-class family in the UK. It has served me very well over the years. But there is a question that comes to mind when I meet with the fatherless boys that we support at Chapter2. It's a question I can't shake-off.

What would my life be like now, if Chapter 1 in my life was the same as theirs.....would I have achieved well academically, worked for an oil major, been very happily married for over 20 years and have good physical and mental health?

And I know the answer to that question. No. My 'success' in life is more to do with the opening chapters of my life than it is my own natural abilities.

So in response to this uncomfortable truth, I will be aiming to walk 100KM in 24 hours to raise money for those that are far less fortunate than I was.

Although this will be the fifth such challenge I have attempted, this one is extra special. I will be joined by both of my incredible children. My only hope (and polite request) is that they don't leave me behind and that their childhood memories of encouragement and piggy-backs are not forgotten.
