I am one of the trustees of The Sussex Beacon in Brighton and I am delighted to run the half marathon for my charity again this year.

The Sussex Beacon supports people in Sussex who are living with HIV.

Effective antiretroviral medications now mean that most people live a full and long life, however for the most vulnerable, its a constant challenge.

Living with HIV you are much more likely to develop secondary conditions like diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular disease or kidney disease. Many of our patients need social care and help with their day to day lives as well as an increasing mental health support.

In addition, many of our patients are ageing with HIV and are increasingly frail and more prone to other infections. They are also more likely to be living alone or isolated and prone to depression and poor mental health.

The Sussex Beacon is based in Brighton, is a valued local cause and lifeline to many. Please support our #teambeaconheroes who are raising much needed funds and vital awareness.

The Sussex Beacon receives less than 1/3 of our funding from statutory sources and the rest comes from our own fundraising activities.

Team Beacon is the name of the team of fundraisers, who take part in the Brighton Half Marathon and other events throughout the year for The Sussex Beacon. We call our amazing fundraisers Team Beacon Heroes.
