Sported is a UK wide charity promoting fairness and equity for young people through grassroot sport and physical activity. It is currently UK’s largest network of 2,900 community groups supporting half a million young people to overcome barriers to reach their full potential.

Throughout the 2023 season, The Warwickshire is embracing this charity chosen by the captains of the three Golf Sections - Men, Ladies and Seniors.

Money raised by The Warwickshire will go to the Midlands region of Sported and, in particular, to support some of the 43 groups in Coventry, Solihull and Birmingham.

Who and what is Sported?

SPORTED’s story started back in 2005 when London won the Olympic bid. It was one part of the jigsaw helping the games to inspire the next generation of young people in the UK.

Research was carried out to identify the need in local communities and the ways in which young people could be helped through sport. It was soon identified that the biggest need was that thousands of community sports clubs, supporting young children in deprived areas in the UK, were struggling and help was required to sustain and grow.

The core proposition for SPORTED was established by 2008: To provide a national resource for thousands of community sports clubs around the country to help them to survive so that young people could thrive.

SPORTED provides organisers of community groups with professional expertise, resources and operational support. It helps community groups address challenges through the provision of services and projects that build the skills and confidence of the group leaders and strengthen their organisation for the future.

Recent research suggests, not surprisingly, that the cost of living crisis will cause tens of thousands of young people to miss out on the physical and mental benefits of sport and physical activity.
