Story
This year I’m running the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 14th April in memory of my dad John McClellan and raising funds for #britisthheartfoundation.
My dad died suddenly from a heart attack back in 2013 at only 56 leaving behind 6 children two of which were only 9 & 12. This left our family completely devastated and life has never and will never be the same.
Until this happened I really hadn’t realised how common heart attacks and heart disease was and is! Heart disease was the leading cause of death worldwide in 2019 and is responsible for around 66,000 deaths in the UK each year, which is an average of 180 people each day, or one death around every eight minutes. In the UK, one in eight men and one in 14 women die from coronary heart disease.
Through donations The British Heart Foundation have funded over 250 grants for research into cardiac MRI technology since the 1980s, this new technology has established a vital tool for diagnosing heart conditions and helping save many lives.
I’m not really aiming for a time to complete the marathon but just hoping to finish and raise as much money as possible for a great charity! Any donations are greatly appreciated and don’t forget to claim your Advancis #britishheartfoundation sunglasses for the chance to win a special prize!
