Skydive · 20 July 2025

Working with over 11,000 people with a sight impairment in Kent and surrounding areas, we’re one of the largest local sight loss charities in the UK. Our aims are to work to prevent avoidable sight loss, deliver excellent support services and help people to live independently.

Story

I did it!

On Sunday 17th August I took to the skies and fell from over 10,000ft at up to 125mph in a tandem skydive.

I lost my eyesight in 2024 due to a hereditary condition. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to tackle in my life.

I lost my ability to do every day tasks that I took for granted. Things like cooking, crossing the road, working, using my phone. I have a niece who was born after I lost my sight and I know I will never see her face.

KAB and all their brilliant services have given so much back to me. I have access to the world again. They have taught me to cook, have given me access to helpful technology and provided counselling to help with the trauma of losing my eyesight.

Since meeting the staff at KAB I have a lot of hope for the future and now feel like anything is possible.

KAB have sight centres in Bromley, Canterbury and Maidstone, services range from rehabilitation to equipment and social clubs depending on the needs of each person.
