Richard's TaskRaiser event for St Nicholas Hospice Care

Richard Rout is raising money for St Nicholas Hospice
10 Local Challengers. One TaskRaiser. Who has what it takes to impress the TaskRaiser?

Story

Support my TaskRaiser challenge, and make me work for it.

I'm one of ten local challengers taking part in St Nicholas Hospice Care's TaskRaiser, each of us turning a £50 stake into as much as we can for the hospice between now and the final event on 25th September. The hospice provides vital care for people in our community when it matters most, and every penny raised here goes to them.

But I know what you're thinking. Why should you part with your hard-earned money just because I've asked nicely? A fair question. So here's the deal: a ladder of forfeits. Every milestone we hit unlocks something progressively more difficult for me. The more you give, the more I must do. Everybody wins, except in some important respects me.

£500 - I'll spend a day as Cliff Waterman's (Labour Leader of West Suffolk) assistant, who can deploy me anywhere to perform any lawful task he sees fit. Politically restricted, of course: no leafleting or campaigning!

£1,000 - a shift volunteering at the Hospice - helping in the kitchen, sorting donations or gardening.

£1,500 - the single largest donor at the moment the JustGiving page passes £1,500 will get me as their gentleman's gentleman for the day. The Jeeves to their Wooster - or indeed their Aunt Dahlia; Woosters and formidable aunts of all kinds welcome. Complete with costume. Serving tea, opening doors, personal errands, no task is too small. Note: Jeeves is above politics and unable to engage in political campaigning of any kind.

£2,000 - I'll spend a Saturday on the walkway between the Cattle Market car park and the Arc, greeting everyone who passes and welcoming them to Bury St Edmunds. Whether they want to be welcomed or not.

£3,000 - I'll make my way from West Suffolk House in Bury St Edmunds to Endeavour House in Ipswich without my own vehicle, without money changing hands, and with no pre-arranged lifts. Walking, jogging, hitchhiking or whatever gets me there. Relying only on the kindness of strangers.

£4,000 - a second bite at the Jeeves apple. Same rules, same costume, fresh Wooster (or aunt): the largest single donation made after we pass £1,500 wins me for the day. Previous winner excluded.

£5,000 - I'll sing, unaccompanied, the national anthem before the meeting of the Leader of Suffolk County Council's choice (with the relevant Chairman's consent). Note: I may very well be tone deaf.

£7,500 - I'll buy a Manchester United shirt with Gary Neville's name on the back and wear it for the TaskRaiser final in September. Perhaps the worst thing a Leeds United fan could ever do. Some sacrifices can never be undone.

So there it is. Watch this page for the forfeits being honoured in full, photographic evidence included, and keep an eye out for the Bury St Edmunds Hamper Challenge, coming soon.

Please donate what you can and help make a difference. Every pound takes the hospice further, and me closer to that shirt.

Thank you.
