Story
Hi, I am fundraising for a local charity: The-Zone (please read the bio blurb and/or click on the About Charity link below)
My challenge is to ‘virtually’ walk from home in Camberley Surrey to Lands End Cornwall (264miles) and then continue onto John O’Groats (874miles). I want to complete this by my birthday on Oct 4th which gives me total of 277 days to complete 1,138 miles. Circa 4miles every single day, eeeek!
This is only GPS logged activity so does NOT include general steps I make to the biscuit tin or loo at home etc. I have to consciously and physically walk as an activity which, when working from home, is hard to do.
If I manage to complete this in advance of my target I am hoping to complete the round trip by walking from John O’Groats back to home (circa 650miles) by 31st December. A grand total of 1,788 miles of activity walking in 2024. A tough but I hope achievable target.
As there is no ‘custom’ routes my journey from Home to Lands End will be in the form of ‘walking the Pennine Way’ which is 268miles, only slightly longer than home to Lands End and I’ll be doing that after the LEJOG leg. The extra return leg I haven’t decided upon yet but will probably be the SouthWest Coast path between Maidenhead and Poole Harbour (630miles). The total math adds up to within 2miles!

To keep motivation levels high I am hoping to raise money for an extremely worthwhile local charity:
The-Zone runs activities for local families with autistic/neurodivergent children.
They run monthly Saturday Zone and Teen Zone sessions during term time and Wednesday Fun Zone sessions in the school holidays. The families enjoy meeting others and playing with games consoles, laptops, toys, crafts and, when it is dry, go-karts, bouncy castles and outdoor fun. They also organise trips out for the families such as bowling, donutting, laser run, soft play, farm etc. It is often difficult for the families to get their children out and joining in with 'mainstream' activities. Since restarting activities following the pandemic, the sessions have been needed more than ever. Families come along, get support, connect with others and feel relaxed and accepted with their children joining in and having fun.
Donations of ANY amount will keep me on my toes (literally) and will make a difference to these local families.
Thanking you in advance.
Richard
